The name 'portfolio' originally comes from the two Latin terms portare (to carry) and folium (paper sheet). Nowadays however, the interpretation of a portfolio is a lot broader and I think the meaning of the word is the collection of works of a person.
I was looking for other forms of portfolio's. Is it still a portfolio or is it not?
Demo's (musicalbums):
All the numbers written by an artist (or band) in a certain time are collected on an album. Since music is audiovisual media, it is impossible for an artist to present themselves by a visual (paper) portfolio. The goal of the artist is to get a contract from a producer after he heard their demo (portfolio).
Best of - albums (musicalbums)
Succesful artists often create a 'best of-album'. Beside the fact that it's a easy way of making money. The goal of an album like this is to reach a broader crowd with the more popular songs they made.
Expositions (art):
Art is something you have to see for yourself instead of looking in a catalogue with tiny pictures. Therefore artists have expositions to present themselves to the outside world.

BeantwoordenVerwijderen> In your opinion is there a difference between a collection (in your case of audio tracks) and a portfolio? And if so, what is / are the difference(s)?
> You define the term portfolio by breaking up the word itself and looking at the meaning of the original words. Is a portfolio more than that? You already raise the question, but how would you define a portfolio now?
I think that, in the fase of inspiration, it is a good idea to broaden your scope of the more narrow definition of port folio to a wider range of your definition.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo first deviate your scope; in other words collect more to be later in the position to concentrate (read: make a selection or narrow down your choices)
